John is Executive Vice President and Principal of Ellis-Gibson Development Group, a development and property managment firm whose focus is shopping center development and build-to-suit transactions. His primary responsibilities include overseeing asset managment, project managment, lease negotiations, debt and equity procurement. In addition to corporate and partnership duties, John is a Trustee of Hampden-Sydney College, a member of Heritage Bank's Virginia Beach Advisory Board and a board member of the Virginia Maritime Heritage Foundation. He is actively involved in the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), Hampton Roads Assoiciation for Commercial Real Estate (HRACRE), and Youth Lacrosse as a coach.
John graduated from Hampden-Sydney College in 1982 with a B.A. in Managerial Economics. He was a four year starting attackman, USILA All American and a member of the 1982 North-South team. He also served as team co-captain in 1981 and 1982. The 1982 team finished its season ranked 8th nationally. In 1994, John was selected to the College's Athlete Hall of Fame. He remains H-SC's all-time leading scorer today. Prior to attending H-SC, John played for Norfolk Academy and was a member of the 1978 TILT state championship team.
John is married to the former Mariska C. Roelofsen of Den Helder, Netherlands. They have two children, Jack and Hunter, and reside in Virginia Beach.
